The Provincial Archives of Åland was established 1978 in the parliament building of Åland (Självstyrelsegården) in the centre of Mariehamn. The Provincial Archives of Åland resides under the Office of Education and Culture within the Government of Åland (Ålands landskapsregering). The Provincial Archives of Åland has responsibility under the Archives Act (2004:13) of Åland to regulate and develop the document and records management within the Government of Åland. One of our most important tasks is to give council and advice to the local authorities in the areas of records and archives management.
